BUFORD — TD Roof opened the game with a 60-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and Buford used a 21-point second quarter to blow the game open en route to a 38-6 win over Walnut Grove in the first battle for the top spot Region 8-AAAAA.
The Class AAAAA No. 2-ranked Wolves (7-1, 4-0 Region 8-AAAAA) scored the first 35 points of the game while the defense held the Warriors (3-5, 2-2) to just 106 total yards of offense.
After Roof’s kickoff return, Buford’s Anthony Grant added a 60-yard punt return for a touchdown. He would add a 5-yard touchdown run late in the second quarter and Tanner Alexander caught a 15-yard touchdown pass from Mic Roof with just 35 seconds left in the first half for a 28-0 lead.
Grant capped the Wolves first third quarter possession with a 40-yard touchdown run before Walnut Grove’s Isaiah Clark scored on a 21-yard run to cut the lead to 35-6 midway through the third quarter.
Bernardo Burgos added a 23-yard field goal in the final minute of the third quarter to cap the scoring.
Buford piled up 254 yards rushing paced 138 yards on 11 carries by Grant. Mic Roof finished 7-of-12 passing for 110 yards and Alexander had three catches for 53 yards.
Buford will play host to Loganville next week for the top spot in the region. Both teams are undefeated in Region 8-AAAAA play.
