The Georgia Mountains YMCA will kick off seasonal family activities with a Fall Festival next Saturday, celebrating Lights On Afterschool and local families.

Lights On Afterschool is the only nationwide event celebrating afterschool programs and their role in keeping kids safe, inspiring them to learn, and helping working families, according to a press release from the Y.  The release goes on to say "the effort has become a hallmark of the afterschool movement and annually sees more than one million Americans celebrate at more than 8,000 events nationwide."

Planned activities, locally, include: games, snacks, hay rides, fishing for pumpkins, face painting, and Lights On Afterschool activities.

“There is something for everyone when you come to the Y. We are committed to being the destination of choice for families. Throughout the year we will host events that are designed to bring the family together in a fun atmosphere," says Gwendolyn Hatcher, Association Childcare Director at the Georgia Mountains YMCA. “This year our Fall Festival will also focus on Lights on Afterschool. The children in our afterschool program will create works of art that will be displayed throughout the facility during our Fall Festival. Lights on Afterschool tells a story about what our kids are doing after 3 p.m.”
