GAINESVILLE — Chestatee's best season in nearly a decade came to a tough end Wednesday in the first round of the Class AAAA playoffs.
The Region 7-AAAA No. 2 seed Lady War Eagles fell to Region 5-AAAA No. 3 seed Cartersville 4-0 and 8-0 in five innings at Talon Field.
The Lady Purple Hurricanes used a stellar pitching performance holding Chestatee to just two hits in the first game and just four hits in the second game.
In Game 1, Cartersville scored single runs in the first and third innings and added two more in the fifth to pull away. In Game 2, the game was a scoreless tie into the third when Cartersville scored three runs in the third, two in the fourth, and invoked the Mercy Rule with three more in the fifth.
