The Gainesville Taxpayer Assistance Center on Oak Street began scheduling appointments Tuesday, with fulfillment to begin on October 17.
The appointments are partially in response to a letter sent to the IRS by 9th District Congressman Doug Collins of Gainesville, who voiced his concern that lines were too long and there wasn't enough staff at the Gainesville office to actually help people.
"The IRS is moving to an appointment service at this office as part of an ongoing effort to eliminate lines and reduce frustration for taxpayers with more complex tax matters who require in-person tax help," stated a press release from the IRS Atlanta office.
Taxpayers are encouraged to check IRS.gov first to see if their question may be answered, if not, they should call 1-844-545-5640 to speak to a representative and schedule an appointment.
