Though temperatures remained near 80 over the weekend, the feel of autumn is in the air at special events across the region.

Cornelia, home of the Big Red Apple, hosted its annual Big Red Apple Festival on Saturday, drawing thousands to downtown for arts and crafts, foods, a car show sponsored by the Habersham Central High School Key Club, the Crabapple Children's Area, and an opportunity to try out laser tag courtesy of Georgia Joe's at Old Clarkesville Mill.

In Hartwell, entries in the sixth-annual Scarecrow Bash are popping up all over town, with a large concentration on the grounds of the Hart County Courthouse downtown.

The entries by local businesses, schools and clubs lead up to the Mayor's Monster Mash on Depot Street from 4-6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31.
