DAWSONVILLE — Coey Watson accounted for 272 total yards and five touchdowns to lead Dawson County to a stunning 57-26 win over Union County in a crucial Region 7-AAA matchup at Tiger Stadium.
Watson ran for 92 yards and four touchdowns and passed for 180 yards and one touchdown and no interceptions for the Tigers (4-1, 2-0 Region 7-AAA) who piled up 501 total yards for the game.
The Dawson County defense also played a big role in helping the Tigers jump out to a 29-7 halftime picking off a pair of Cole Wright passes to set up short touchdown drives.
Wright, one week after being named the Locos Grill and Pub Friday Game Night Player of the Week, was just 17-of-26 for 117 yards, no touchdown passes and three interceptions. He did have two rushing touchdowns.
Union County (5-2, 1-2) cut the lead to 29-13 to open the second half on a 3-yard scoring run by Wright but not get any closer.
For the second week in a row Kolton Brumbalow had a kickoff return for a touchdown for Dawson County sprinting 95-yards for a score to counter a Union County score for a 43-19 lead.
Peyton Myers finished with 109 yards to lead Dawson County.
Bo Lynch had two rushing touchdowns for the Panthers.
The Tigers travel to face Fannin County next week.
Union County plays host to North Hall next week.
