HELEN — An 18-year-old man was seriously injured in a skateboarding accident in Helen on Thursday.

Helen Police Chief Brian Stephens said the accident occurred at 11:26 a.m. on Fussenstrasse.

Andrew Domingues was on the skateboard and fell off, injuring his head, Stephens said.

According to Stephens, after the fall, Domingues got up and ran a short distance and collapsed in a ditch.

White County Emergency Medical Services personnel assessed the injuries and determined it was serious enough to request a medical helicopter to transport the youth to a hospital for treatment.

Domingues was airlifted by the Blairsville-based AirLife Georgia 14 helicopter.

"He wasn’t wearing any safety gear," Stephens said.

No update on Domingues' condition is available.
