Thousands of visitors are expected in Gainesville this weekend for the annual Mule Camp Market fall festival and other events, and Gainesville police are alerting motorists that the roads will be more congested than usual.

The downtown Gainesville square and roads around the square will close Thursday night, October 6 and will remain closed until Sunday, October 9, according to press information from the department.

Additionally, Enota Elementary School will conduct its annual “Walk to School” program on Wednesday, October 5 from 6:30 to 8 a.m. The public should expect delays on Riverside Drive and Enota Avenue, and authorities suggest they seek alternative routes during that time frame.

"This weekend is expected to be a busy one in and around Gainesville. We are expecting large crowds for Mule Camp and other events. Additionally, Gainesville is playing host to the Georgia Fall Games for the Special Olympics this weekend. We only ask that the motoring public buckle up and drive safe," said officers.
