Mother Nature has again put a damper on a NASCAR race day.
This time, it’s the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Dover International Speedway. With wet weather rolling through the area and a persistent mist falling, NASCAR has postponed today's event to Sunday morning at 10 am.
Wet weather rolled through the area earlier this afternoon, with rain falling off and on.
NASCAR officials made several efforts to get the racing surface dried and ready to competition. Shortly after 4:30 pm, NASCAR rolled the field in an attempt to getting the race started.
Moments later, the rains came again, leading NASCAR to make the call to move the race to Sunday morning.
It’s the second straight day that rain has wreaked havoc with the NASCAR schedule at Dover. On Friday, wet weather washed out NASCAR Sprint Cup Series qualifying, setting the field for Sunday’s race by owner’s points.
It was a similar situation Saturday, as the Xfinity Series only got in one round of qualifying, with the final two rounds being rained out. The remainder of the field was set by owner’s points.
When the race finally goes green Sunday morning, Erik Jones will lead the field to the start, with teammate Kyle Busch alongside. Joey Logano will roll off from the third starting spot, with Alex Bowman in fourth and Daniel Suarez in fifth.
Justin Allgaier, Ty Dillon, Elliott Sadler, Darrell Wallace, Jr. and Austin Dillon will round out the top 10 starters.
