After more than a year of construction, officials are ready to show the public the new Hall County Correctional Institution. A grand opening for the new facility is set for Friday, February 12.

The new facility, built at a cost of $3.6 million, replaces the old Hall County Correctional Institution, which is 53 years old.

"We are honored to be able to provide the citizens of Hall County with a more secure, efficient facility, which will meet the needs of our correctional system for years to come," said Hall County Warden Walt Davis in a press statement.

The medium to minimum security prison will house up to 200 inmates, according to Davis.  He said it includes a fully automated Jail Management System. In addition, the new facility has a separate dorm for participants in Hall County's Reentry Accountability Court Transition (REACT) program.

Construction on the new facility began in November 2014.  Davis pointed out that Hall County Government served as contractor for the project, making for substantial savings in the building process. He said inmates from across the state were used for construction crews for a large part of the building.

"The cost of building a new C.I. using conventional construction methods would be as much as $7 million," Davis said.  "By utilizing this unique methodology, we were able to complete the new facility within a budget of $3.6 million."

The public is invited to attend the grand opening of the new correctional facility on February 12 at 10 a.m.
