SCOTTSBORO, Ala. (AP) A 15-year-old girl from Georgia is recovering from a broken ankle after a boulder rolled on her foot while exploring a Jackson County cave.

Eddie Tigue of the Scottsboro Jackson County Rescue Squad tells local media that the incident happened Saturday afternoon and lead to a rescue that took several hours. A group of people were exploring Tumbling Rock Cave when a large boulder rolled on the girl's foot, injuring it.

Several rescue squads responded, including the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Rescue Squad and the Huntsville Cave Rescue Unit. After about nine hours, the teen was carried out to safety.

Tigue says that for the Scottsboro Jackson County Rescue Squad, this type of rescue happens several times a year, as there are many caves in Jackson County.

There is no word on where in Georgia the girl was from.
