Posted 12:59PM on Friday 15th January 2016 ( 8 years ago )

Hall County Sheriff Gerald Couch announced at a press conference Friday that he will seek re-election.

"I have a strong drive and a calling to do this job. This is my community - I was born and raised here and I have an investment. I care about the men and women in our sheriff's office, I care about our citizens and I want to make things just a little better than when I found them," Couch said.

Couch made his announcement to a small crowd at the press conference at the Northeast Georgia History Center, where he discussed his goals if he is elected for a second term, including future growth of the jail, incentivizing prospective and current employees to get college degrees and revamping the department's training facility. More information about Couch's campaign can be found on his campaign website.

Currently, Couch is the only one who has announced their bid for the Sheriff's seat.

Couch is a Hall County native and was first elected as Sheriff in January 2013. Prior to that he served as an investigator, patrol deputy, training officer, sergeant and lieutenant since he first joined the Hall County Sheriff's Office in 1981.
