No one won the Powerball jackpot Saturday, increasing the prize to $1.4 billion, however, a Gwinnett County man is $1 million richer following the drawing.
Dennis Taimanglo, 38, of Lawrenceville claimed his prize Monday after matching the first five numbers from the January 9 drawing, Georgia Lottery officials said.
The retail worker discovered he won after receiving a screenshot of the Powerball results on his cellphone.
“I was shocked. I didn’t believe it,” he said in press release. “I read the numbers out, then I started laughing.”
Taimanglo said he would use the winnings to plan for the future. He and his fiancé, Lani, have one teenage son. “I’ll be paying bills off and getting caught up with life," said Taimanglo in the release.
Taimanglo purchased his winning Quik Pik ticket on Friday night at Simonton Shell on New Hope Road in Lawrenceville.
Sixteen other lottery players won $50,000 each in the Saturday drawing, including players in Athens, Buford and Duluth, officials said.
Winning numbers from the drawing were: 16-19-32-34-57 and the Powerball was 13.
