DEMOREST — Thanks to a pair of double-double performances by two of the big guys, the Piedmont College men's basketball team held on to win 79-73 over William Peace for the first USA South victory of the season. The Lions are now 6-5 overall and 1-2 in the USA South with the win.
Both Justin Vallejo and Chris Meeks turned in a double-double as Vallejo led the way with 18 points and brought down 10 boards, while Meeks led the team in rebounds with 13 while adding 15 points.
The Lions trailed at the break 34-33 but the largest lead they allowed the Pacers was just four points early in the second half. Piedmont took the lead for good on a Vallejo 3-pointer with 13:40 to go and led by as many as 11 down the stretch.
The Pacers, who are known for their ability beyond the arc, hit 10 three-pointers going 10-of-30 despite a stingy Piedmont defense that kept them in check. The Lions had six 3-pointers of their own including two from newcomer TAYLOR MILLS who connected on his first three's of his career with a pair in four tries.
