The Piedmont College Opera Workshop will present a one-act opera by Stephen Paulus, “The Three Hermits,” at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 14, in the Chapel.

Admission is free, and the Chapel is located at 992 Central Avenue on the Piedmont campus in Demorest.

“The Three Hermits” is based on a short story by Leo Tolstoy. In the opera, a bishop, accompanied by his mother, two nuns, and a chorus of pilgrims, sail across the White Sea in Russia, where they encounter three hermits on a remote island. The bishop spends a day attempting to teach the hermits how to pray, but in the end, it is the bishop and pilgrims who are blessed by their encounter with the hermits.

Piedmont College is an independent liberal arts college of more than 2,250 students with campuses located in Demorest and Athens, Georgia. Founded in 1897, the college offers undergraduate degrees in more than 50 major areas, master’s degrees in education and business, and doctoral degrees in education.
