The Georgia Supreme Court has denied a stay of execution for Kelly Renee Gissendaner, who was set to be executed by lethal injection at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday night.

Jane Hansen, public information officer for the Georgia Supreme Court, said in a release that the stay was denied in a 5-2 decision shortly after the United States Supreme Court also denied stay for Gissendaner, who is the only woman on Georgia's death row. Gissendaner was sentenced to death after she was convicted of felony murder in the 1997 death of her husband Douglas Gissendaner.

She was originally scheduled to be executed in February, but the execution was delayed due to winter weather. A second attempt was scheduled in March but was again delayed because the lethal injection drug was cloudy.
