WINDER — Brock Landis had five days to prepare for his first ever varsity start.
Yet you would never have known it from his play on the field.
Needing an offensive spark, coaches turned to the Winder-Barrow sophomore, and the quarterback performed like a grizzled veteran. In a contest that his team absolutely had to have, Landis conjured four touchdowns, including the game-winner in a 35-34 defeat of previously unbeaten Salem in overtime.
Landis completed 20 of 41 passes for 191 yards and a touchdown and also ran for three scores, helping to take up the slack for an offense missing standout running back Cece Green – out with an injury. The win could not have come at a more vital time for Winder-Barrow, who not only kept itself alive in the playoff hunt but dealt a blow to one of the four teams it is chasing in the postseason race.
For his efforts, Landis has been named the Locos Grill and Pub Friday Game Night Player of the Week.
Friday Game Night editor Morgan Lee recently caught up with the sophomore to talk about his explosive first start, what it meant for the Bulldoggs and the season ahead for this sudden star and his program.
