CONYERS — Gainesville notched its third straight victory and maintained its pace in the front of the Region 8-AAAAA race on Friday courtesy a 28-0 defeat of Heritage in Conyers.
The Red Elephants (3-1, 3-0 Region 8-AAAAA) rolled up 401 total yards but largely got things done with their defense, as they held Heritage (0-5, 0-4) to 140 total yards and picked off four Patriots passes -- all the work of Chris Lyles.
Meanwhile, Gainesville quarterback Messiah Dorsey threw for 244 yards and three scores, along with one interception, while also rushing for 90 yards. Chris Byrd also rushed for 42 yards and a touchdown.
Dorsey connected with Martavius Davis, Tre Blackwell and Kadarius Smith for scoring passes.
Gainesville begins a key stretch next week, traveling to Salem -- which suffered its first loss of the season this Friday -- before returning home for a showdown with Lanier (Oct. 9).
