GAINESVILLE - Gainesville Fire Chief Jerome Yarbrough has been selected to receive this year's Helping Hands Award from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hall County (BGCHC).
Yarbrough is a former member of the club and has been a member of the its' Board of Directors for more than 16 years.
The award is given annually to an individual or group that has demonstrated service, dedication and commitment to the Boys & Girls Clubs and the community. It will be presented at the clubs' annual Future for the Kids Gala Oct. 13 at the Gainesville Civic Center.
“Jerome is a man of action, disinterested in accolades, and focused solely on results. He leads by example, not words, and steadily inspires Club members, board members, and staff,” says long-time friend and BGCHC board member Abb Hayes. "Jerome’s outstanding leadership and commitment to the community and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hall County makes him an obvious choice to receive the award as he is a shining example of the Great Futures built at the Club every day."
As we reported several weeks ago, the keynote speaker for the gala will be Oliver North, the retired Marine Colonel, who rose to prominence during the Iran-Contra scandal 30 years ago.
Apart from serving as the keynote speaker, Col. North will also attend the V.I.P. reception and participate in a meet-and-greet/photo opportunity with special guests. There will also be a book signing following the program.
The gala will also highlight the clubs' Youth of the Year recipient, Jayla Williams. Former Youth of the Year and current student at the Air Force Academy, Donovan Moss, will also be present to discuss his involvement with the Clubs and what that experience has meant to him.
