GAINESVILLE — No one wanted to get on the football field more than Gainesville quarterback Messiah Dorsey on Friday.
The senior signal caller didn't get much of a chance to show off his skill set in the Red Elephants' season opening loss to Grayson, and, after a bye week, both Dorsey and the entire Gainesville squad were ready to wash away the memories of that defeat.
Mission accomplished. And Dorsey led the way.
The senior totaled 215 yards and five touchdowns to pace the Red Elephants in a 40-26 defeat of the Bulldoggs and get Gainesville (1-1, 1-0 Region 8-AAAAA) into the win column for the first time in 2015.
For his efforts, Dorsey has been named the Loco's Grill and Pub Friday Game Night Player of the Week.
After leading the program in receptions in 2014, Dorsey slid into the quarterback spot and brings a combination of athleticism and passing ability that should serve Gainesville's spread attack well.
Friday Game Night editor Morgan Lee recently caught up with Dorsey to talk about his big night, his transition into the position and the season ahead for Gainesville.
