GAINESVILLE — Kobe Denton ripped off a 60-yard touchdown run with less than two minutes remaining to make the difference for Towns County in a 25-21 win over Lakeview Academy on Friday in Gainesville.
"He made something out of nothing there," Indians coach Billy Barnhart said. "This was huge for us to come back on the road in our first region game after two tough losses. Hopefully this will be a springboard for us for the rest of the region season."
Lakeview ran out to a 21-7 lead in the second quarter, but the Indians began their comeback at that point. It started with a 48-yard field goal from Shea Underwood to bring Towns County within 21-10 at the half.
Towns County held the Lions scoreless the rest of the way and then pulled within 21-18 with a touchdown and two-point conversion -- after Andy Chambers intercepted a pass on a deep Lakeview drive.
The Indians (1-2, 1-0 Region 8-A) will travel to Hebron Christian next week.
Lakeview (1-2, 0-1) will take a bye next week before taking on Providence Christian on Sept. 25.
