FLOWERY BRANCH — Sometimes you just have to remind yourself that style points mean nothing.
Lanier won't care that it managed just three points on Friday -- the Longhorns will care more that they held Flowery Branch scoreless in a 3-0 victory at Flowery Branch.
Lanier (3-0, 2-0 Region 8-AAAAA) managed 310 yards of offense but never found the end zone, a mixture of turnovers (three), penalties (eight for 85 yards) and gritty Flowery Branch defense stunting the Longhorns offensive rhythm.
Noah Thomas managed the sole points of the contest, drilling a 21-yard field goal with 1:32 left in the third quarter.
With Lanier's defense, that was plenty.
The Falcons (1-2, 0-2) put up just 121 total yards, 71 of that on the ground. The Longhorns also picked off two Flowery Branch passes. Trey Wilcoxson paced the Brancdh with 62 yards rushing.
Marko Baity led Lanier with 83 yards rushing, while Ashton Barnes added 49.
Lanier will take on Cedar Shoals next week.
Flowery Branch will travel to Heritage next week looking to rebound.
