Dawson County rally falls short against Heritage, Catoosa

DAWSONVILLE — Dawson County rallied from two separate deficits but could not complete the comeback in a tough 27-22 loss to Heritage, catoosa Friday night at home.

The two teams played to a scoreless draw in the first quarter before Heritage (2-1) took the first lead on a 23-yard field goal by Alex Ahlyege just 54 seconds into the second quarter.

The Tigers answered with a pair of touchdowns within a three-minute stretch. Hunter Miller scored on a 1-yard run and then Coey Watson also powered in from the 1 to give Dawson County a 14-3 halftime lead.

But the Tigers could not hold it. The Generals scored twice within a two-minute span midway through the third quarter to retake the lead.

Corbee Wilson hooked up with Ryan Carter for a 38-yard touchdown pass and then Wilson added a 10-yard run with 4:01 left in the quarter for a 15-14 lead.

Dawson County reclaimed the lead 20-15 on a 3-yard Watson scoring run with just 38 seconds left in the third quarter. The Generals would put things away in the fourth quarter.

Wilson connecetd with Luke Grant on a 55-yard touchdown pass with 4:54 left in the game and then Wilson found Preston Hill for a 35-yard scoring pass less than a minute later for a 27-20 lead.

The Tigers got a safety when Wilson ran out of the end zone with 22 seconds left.
