CUMMING - The Forsyth County Public Safety Complex Friday was the site of a ceremony to remember and honor those lost September 11, 2001.

The event featured remarks by County Fire Chief Danny Bowman and State Sen. Michael Williams.  Honor Guards from the Forsyth County Fire Department and Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office also participated

The foyer of the Public Safety Complex features a steel I-beam from the World Trade Center, which serves as a memorial and tribute to those who died. In 2006, when Forsyth County’s portion of the I-beam was received from the New York City Fire Department, it was one of only two FDNY had entrusted to other departments. Additionally, Forsyth County’s piece was the beam from which the FDNY memorial medallions, which were given to the families of the fallen New York firefighters, were cut.
