BANNER ELK, N.C. — The No. 11 University of North Georgia women's soccer team completed their three-game road swing with a 3-1 victory over Lees-McRae Tuesday afternoon. The Nighthawks allowed their first goal of the season in the 52nd minute of the game.

UNG improves to 3-0 on the year while LMC drops to 0-3.

North Georgia got on the board first in the 33rd minute as Sophia Matonak scored her first goal of the season on an unassisted strike. Kassidy Freeman got in on the action in the 41st minute beating the goalie on a 2-on-1 situation in the box with Matonak providing the assist. That goal gave UNG the 2-0 lead that it would take into the half.

Lees-McRae became the first opponent to score on the Nighthawks this season cracking through on a scramble in the box with a shot that deflected off the post and into the goal to pull the Bobcats with in one. LMC's Erin Barcal struck the shot that snapped UNG's shutout streak in the 52nd minute of play.

Jade Pennock scored her first goal as a Nighthawk in the 82nd minute with a blast from 23 yards out giving North Georgia the 3-1 lead that proved final.

NOTES
- Barcal's goal in the 52nd minute for Lees-McRae snapped a streak of 277 minutes and 59 seconds in which UNG had not given up a goal. The last team to score on the Nighthawks was Lenoir-Rhyne in the 65th minute of last year's NCAA DII Second Round contest.

- Three more Nighthawks scored their first goals of the 2015 season in today's game as Sophia Matonak, Kassidy Freeman, and Jade Pennock all found the back of the net in the contest. UNG now has seven different players that have scored during the young season.

- UNG has been consistent offensively so far this season scoring three goals in each of its first three games.

The Lady Nighthawks will return home for their season opener this Sunday against Queens (N.C.) with kickoff at the UNG Soccer Complex set for 2 p.m.

- Today's seven shots on goal were a season low, despite still scoring three goals.
