MARYVILLE, Tenn. — With a late push and score in the final minutes by newcomer Cassidy Reich, the Piedmont College women's soccer team notched a key non-conference win early in the season, defeating Bridgewater College 2-1 on Sunday at the Maryville College Fall Invitational.
A member of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference out of Virginia, Bridgewater was picked 3rd in the league this season after posting a 16-4 record in the 2014 season.
The Lady Lions took the lead in the first half after Morgan Edelman converted a penalty kick awarded to PC in the 31st minute, but Bridgewater was able to draw level in the 2nd half just under 10 minutes in when Michelle Viegas scored off a long cross from the left side.
Now level on the board, a Katie Davine through-ball found classmate and fellow newcomer Cassid Reich streak to the left side putting the youngster in a great position to give Piedmont back the lead. Reich converted with a score to the far post handing Piedmont the 2-1 decision in the neutral site match.
