MARYVILLE, TENNESSEE — In the final day of competition at the Huntingdon College Jubilee, the Lady Lions again split their action with a 3-1 loss to Sewanee and a straight sets 3-0 victory over Talladega College. The Lady Lions were dominant against the Tornadoes and had some close sets in the loss to the Tigers including forcing extra points in the fourth and final set.
Piedmont won the first game of the match against the Tigers 25-14 in a hot start but lost in three straight following that 25-19, 25-21 and 26-24. This marked the second straight day they forced extra points in a tough, hard fought match but ultimately suffered the loss.
The Tornadoes were no match for Piedmont as the Lady Lions took care of business against Talladega early with the sets ending 25-15, 25-9 and 25-15. That is the most dominating performance the Lady Lions have had so far this season. With the win, Piedmont moved to 3-2 overall heading into the first home match of the season.
Turning Point
-The Lady Lions forced the Tigers into extra points after battling in the fourth set, trying to force a fifth deciding set, but came up just shy in a 26-24 decision.
-Piedmont was a force to be reckoned with in the second match as they did not allow the Tornadoes more than 15 points in any of the three sets.
Standout Performances
-AMANDA TROTTER led the way against Sewanee with 10 kills while the dynamic duo of MALLORY LEARY and TAYLOR CRAMSEY both posted 8 kills each.
-EMILY PETERS added 22 assists to her season total in the first match of the day against the Tigers.
-MADDISON SCRUGGS served as the Lady Lions' setter in the second match of the day with 26 assists against the Tornadoes.
Inside the Box Score
-Against the Tigers, Piedmont lost their first match against Sewanee since 2013 when the Lady Lions participated in Sewanee's own tournament and lost 3-0.
-Cramsey continued to add to her impressive total early in the season as she posted six kills against Talladega while also adding nine digs.
-The digs were spread evenly in the second match against Talladega as HALEY HIXON and HEATHER LAPRADE earned 10 while Cramsey had nine and Scruggs had 7 digs.

-Piedmont shut down the Tornadoes most important factor in Carla Novaes who is from Brazil and Head Volleyball Coach Sid Feldman said he was proud of his team's effort to shut her down as she gave Belhaven fits in their first match Saturday.
