For several teams, the real season gets under way starting Friday.
Regions 8-AAAAA and 6-AAAAAA begin their quest for the playoffs with a full slate of games while more Region 8-A teams will open their region schedules as well.
In Region 8-AAAAA, Lanier begins defense of its region title at home against perennial power Clarke Central with a loaded defense, while Flowery Branch hits the road at Loganville looking for a quick start in its quest to get back to the postseason. Winder-Barrow and Apalachee will also lock horns in the Battle of Winder.
North Forsyth and Habersham Central get started in 6-AAAAA. Both teams are coming off tough 2014 campaigns and could use some confidence early on.
Commerce will travel to Hebron Christian to start its Region 8-A slate with a bang.
But none of those compare to the potentially epic battle that will take place in Powder Springs when Class AAAA No. 1 Buford faces Class AAAAAA No. 3 McEachern. It figures to be the marquee matchup in the state. Buford won at home 27-20 last year with a touchdown in the final minute.
