TOCCOA — Stephens County pushed past Franklin County for a 34-7 season-opening win on Friday in Toccoa.
Tyrik Cunningham helped pace the Indians (1-0), rushing 17 times for 125 yards and a touchdown, while quarterback Jackson Bell completed 9 of 17 passes, including a touchdown. Bell also rushed for two scores.
"This was a good win for us; we had had two scrimmages this fall and played well in the first and not so well in the second," Stephens County coach Frank Barden said. "So it was good to come out and show how focused we were. We've got a young team and we played disciplined football, and that was very encouraging."
The Indians will travel to take on Elbert County next Friday.
