CUMMING - Sawnee Electric Membership Corporation (Sawnee EMC) officials announced a rate decrease Monday, following a reduction in a component the EMC uses to calculate bills.
The EMC's board of directors recently reduced the Wholesale Power Cost Adjustment.
Sawnee EMC, which serves portions of Lumpkin, Dawson, Forsyth, Hall, Gwinnett, Fulton and Cherokee counties, will implement the rate change September 1.
The move is expected to reduce monthly bills by $10.57 for every 1000 kWh used, according to the EMC. It's effective through the end of 2015.
"This adjustment to WPCA will lower the electricity rate for almost every Sawnee EMC member on their energy bills during this four (4) month period," Blake House, Vice President of Member Services for the EMC said.
The total projection of savings for members, according to the EMC, will be around $9.9 million.
