SUGAR HILL — Lanier got its 2015 campaign off to a winning start on Friday -- showing fans just how tough its defense will be over the upcoming campaign.
The Longhorns stuffed Lambert, holding the visitors to 82 total yards en route to a 17-7 win in Sugar Hill.
Lambert's only score came off a fumble return in the first quarter.
Meanwhile, the Longhorns (1-0) rolled up 328 yards of their own to overtake the early score from Lambert.
Quarterback Tahj Tolbert hooked up with receiver Noah Fritz to knot the score at 7-7 early in the second quarter -- where the score stayed through the interval.
Yet Lanier inched ahead 10-7 with 1:23 left in the third quarter on a 26-yard field goal before Ashton Barnes iced the game with 11:52 remaining on a touchdown run.
Lanier gets a week off before playing host to Clarke Central on Sept. 4.
