Failure to yield leads to list of charges for man in Oakwood

OAKWOOD - Oakwood Police said a motorist who failed to yield for them Wednesday morning, led them miles down Winder Highway to his home, before surrendering.

Investigator Danny Sridej said an Oakwood Police Officer, patrolling a school zone on Atlanta Highway, tried to pull the man over for speeding.

The suspect, identified as Evan Charles Colquitt, 27, led the officer down Winder Highway, eventually pulling into his Holcomb Circle driveway.

"There was a warrant out for his arrest for a drug violation in Gwinnett County when they (officer) ran the tag as they tried to stop the vehicle.  That's probably the reason he refused to stop," Sridej said.

While Sridej said authorities thought they may have a chase on their hands, Colquitt surrendered without incident at his residence, according to Sridej.

"He's facing suspended license, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, speeding and of course an outstanding warrant with Gwinnett County for drug violations," Sridej said of the charges.

The incident started around 7:15 a.m. Wednesday.
