CLARKESVILLE - A vehicle repo gone bad left a Cleveland man injured in downtown Clarkesville Saturday morning.
The Georgia State Patrol and Clarkesville Police Department are investigating the incident that happened about 10:35 a.m. Saturday behind the Habersham County Courthouse Annex.
Sr. Trooper Jason Stephens of GSP Post 7 in Toccoa identified the pedestrian as 33-year-old Michael Scott Karpinski of Cleveland.
"The vehicle was in the process of being repossessed by the pedestrian," Stephens said.
The driver of the car drove forward and struck the pedestrian with the front of the car, Stephens said.
"The pedestrian ended up on the hood of [the car] as it drove off," Stephens said. "The pedestrian came off the hood and was struck by [the car]."
Karpinski was thrown from the car as it turned onto Washington Street near Woods Furniture,
Karpinski was taken by ambulance for treatment primarily of lower extremity injuries, Stephens said.
Charges are pending against the driver of the car, who was later identified by the pedestrian as the driver, Stephens said.
"Witnesses stated that they observed the pedestrian on the hood ... and the pedestrian came off the hood," Stephens said. "They also observed Driver No. 1 flee the scene in Vehicle 1."
Stephens said more details will be released Monday.
