WINDER—A boy injured by a falling tree branch at a Winder daycare nearly three years ago has lifted his head by himself for the first time since the accident, according a Facebook post by the boy's mother.

Tripp Halstead was two years old at the time of the accident, and has been undergoing treatments ever since.

"It was amazing to watch! I was crying. I texted everyone I knew and put it (on Facebook)," said the post on the "Tripp Halstead Updates" Facebook page.

The post goes on the say that the boy has slowly working towards this milestone, turning his head from side to side periodically instead of "letting it flop."

The toddler suffered a cracked skull and had to undergo brain surgery at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta when the accident happened October 29, 2012.

Thursday was his first day of Pre-K, where he will go three days per week, spending the other two days of the week in therapy.

His Facebook page has more than 1.2 million "likes."
