BRASELTON - Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) Braselton http://www.nghs.com/braselton marked the achievement of another milestone in the growth of its healthcare campus Tuesday. Staff members and guests gathered at each end of the new River Place Bridge at 7:30 for a ribbon-cutting and dedication ceremony in celebration of the opening of the new bridge.
With its 240-foot span, the bridge connects Medical Plaza 1 on the western portion of the campus with the hospital and Medical Plaza B. The bridge is 40 feet wide and provides a 10-foot sidewalk for foot traffic as well as two traffic lanes for vehicles.
Anthony Williamson, President of NGMC Braselton,and Dr. James Jackson, Medical Development Director for the Greater Braselton Area since 2007, cut ribbons at each end of the bridge and led guests to the center for the dedication ceremony.
"The safety of patients, visitors, and staff is a priority at NGMC Braselton," said Williamson. "We were very concerned for drivers turning left onto Friendship Road from our West entrance at Medical Plaza One because they had to cross the highway without the benefit of a traffic signal. The addition of the bridge now allows drivers to access to the traffic light at the main entrance for safer left-hand turns."
With the addition of sidewalks on each side of the bridge, the NGMC Braselton campus now offers approximately one mile of 10-foot wide walking paths for community use. The bridge also allows for easier movement between the many physicians offices in Medical Plaza 1 and the hospital, including the ability to reach the emergency entrance at the hospital after entering the campus at the west entrance.
