WINDER - Barrow County Emergency Services recently promoted Marty Garner to the rank of Lieutenant. After completing his testing, Lieutenant Garner was promoted and assigned to Station 4 on B Shift. “Marty brings a lot of experience and training to this position,” stated Chief Skinner. “He will do a good job in his new role.”
Lieutenant Garner started his firefighting career in April 1982. Working full time in the fire service he started training in both fire and emergency medical services. In August of 1989 Lieutenant Garner became a paramedic.
Lieutenant Garner took numerous specialty classes including trench rescue, a training officer class that was over eleven hundred training hours and a six hundred and sixty hour fire chief course. In September, 2011 Lieutenant Garner started working for Barrow County Emergency Services. He has utilized his experience and training to help train others in the department.
“I want to congratulate Mr. Garner on his promotion to Lieutenant,” said Chief Skinner. “He is a great example of the hard working men and women of Barrow County Emergency Services and I look forward to seeing how he will do in his new position.”
