Yahoola Creek Park Remains Open
Lumpkin County, Georgia August 10, 2015
On Friday, August 7, 2015 Lumpkin County officials were notified of several dead fish located in the waters that flow through Yahoola Creek Park.
Immediately, Lumpkin County officials notified all appropriate State agencies that investigate and handle such matters. On Friday, August 7, 2015, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and the Georgia Environmental Protection Division visited the site to collect samples. The Georgia Department of Agriculture also visited the site to collect fish to perform toxicology testing. According to the Georgia Environmental Protection Division the source of the contamination that caused the fish to die is no longer present. No other animals or plant life have been affected.
To date, Lumpkin County has not received any official notification of what caused the fish kill, nor, has Lumpkin County received any notices to close the park.
Yahoola Creek Park remains open and each visitor to the park can make their own decision as to which park amenities they choose to utilize.
