GAINESVILLE - A line of severe storms swept through the north Georgia region Monday afternoon and evening, leaving in its wake numerous reports of storm-related damage and power outages.
Preliminary reports coming in throughout the evening indicated damage across a wide swath of the region, ranging from north of the Clarkesville area to south of Athens and metro Atlanta.
According to the Georgia Power website, several power outages were also reported, those stretching from the northwest corner of the state to just south of the Augusta city limits. Nearly 900 customers were affected in the Clarkesville area, with a similar number of customers reporting outages in the Toccoa area.
Outages were also reported in Gainesville, Dawsonville and Dahlonega, with only a few dozen customers affected at any one time in those cities.
Hall County authorities reported 20 calls during the height of the storm, most related to downed trees and power lines.
