OAKWOOD - An Oakwood man, who was associated with the Northeast Georgia Medical Center for many years and was also active in the local Republican Party, has died.

Louis Propes, 87, who died Aug. 6, was a member of Northeast Georgia Medical Center’s Hospital Authority Board for 15 years and also served on the Northeast Georgia Medical Center Board.  Propes was a member of the Gainesville College (now University of North Georgia/Gainesville) Board of Trustees in 1999.

He was active in the Hall County Republican Party for many years, serving as a delegate to state conventions on a number of occasions.

Propes retired from Lockheed-Martin, where he was an operations supervisor of 34 years, in 1984.

A memorial service will be held next Sunday at Flat Creek Baptist Church.  Propes was a member of the church and was recently honored by the church as a deacon-emeritus.
