BUFORD - Thousands of fans are expected in Buford for a Doobie Brothers concert on the second Saturday in September.

City commissioners approved a traffic control plan at their August meeting Monday.

"We do an annual concert. This will actually be our fourth large, long concert that we've done here since development (and) opening of the Buford Community Center," said Todd Cleveland, Director of the Buford Community Center Town, Park and Theater.

These free concerts are typically held in September or October.

"We try to obtain a bigger-name artist, such as we have this year, headlined by the Doobie Brothers," said Cleveland, adding that Big & Rich played in the city last year.

Matthew Curry and Laura Johnston will also take part in the concert, which is expected to draw big crowds.

"We have some off-site, remote parking lots that we partner with--some at our schools, some at another facility located nearby. We use motor coaches to shuttle people to and from the concert," said Cleveland.

The lawn for the concert can handle up to 10,000 people, with plenty of concessions available.

"We have full concessions available, provided by Proof of the Pudding, which handles all of the concerts at the Gwinnett Center," said Cleveland.

He said the city expects to be able to handle the load of concert-goers coming into the city.
