STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. (AP) Hundreds of people gathered at Stone Mountain Park, just outside Atlanta, to rally in support of the Confederate battle flag.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports a long line of vehicles bearing the flags made its way into the park early Saturday.

They gathered in the park, which is home to the ``Confederate Memorial Carving,'' a relief featuring Confederate President Jefferson Davis, General Robert E. Lee and General Thomas ``Stonewall'' Jackson.

The Confederate battle flag and other Confederate symbols have come under renewed scrutiny since nine black churchgoers were fatally shot during Bible study in Charleston, South Carolina, in June.

Flag supporters argue it represents Southern heritage and pride in Civil War-era leaders.

The Journal-Constitution reported a smaller number of flag opponents came to the park Saturday to express their views.
