LOS ANGELES - A young Gainesville man has won the gold medal in the 500-meter kayak event at the 2015 Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles.

Will Crain's father, Scott Crain, who is with his son for the competition, sent word of the accomplishment by email.

Young Crain, a senior at Johnson High School, had trained for the Los Angeles games at the Lake Lanier Rowing Venue, site of the 1996 Olympics canoe-kayak events.
