CLAYTON - State and local authorities are investigating the overnight death of an inmate at the Rabun County Detention Center.
According to a press release from Sheriff Frank Andrews, the unresponsive inmate was discovered during a routine watch tour of the facility. Rabun County EMS was called at 12:12 a.m.
Detention officers administered first aid, Medical personnel responded and determined the male inmate was deceased.
The name of the inmate is being withheld pending notification of his family.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is leading the investigation, with the Rabun County Coroner's Office and Rabun County Sheriff!/ Office assisting.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
The release from Andrews states the investigation is ongoing and there is no further information that can be provided at this time.
