CUMMING - A groundbreaking ceremony was held Friday for the new Matt Community Park in Forsyth County.
“We owe a sincere thank you to the citizens for approving the Parks, Recreation and Green Space Bond that enabled us to purchase this beautiful piece of property,” said County Commission Chairman R.J. (Pete) Amos. “I know that this park has been a long time coming to fruition, so I would also like to thank the development community for the Impact Fee funding that is helping to build this great new park.”
District 4 Commissioner and Vice Chairman Cindy Jones Mills, whose district includes the new park, expressed her excitement about the project.
“It can be challenging to meet the demands of growing our parks and recreation amenities to keep pace with the county’s growing population, but Forsyth County voters met that challenge with the passage of the $100 million Parks, Recreation and Green Space Bond in 2008,” said Jones Mills. “That vote allowed for this land to be bought and for us to add this new park to the county’s outstanding park system.”
