DAWSONVILLE - Dawson County authorities Thursday said the two people killed in Wednesday's murder-suicide were boyfriend and girlfriend.
Dawson County Sheriff's Deputy and acting public information officer Johnny Holtzclaw identified the victim as Erin Niccole Jones, 28, of Dawsonville. He identified the offender or shooter as David Geyer II, 43, also of Dawsonville.
Holtzclaw said Jones was a 911 Communications Supervisor with the Forsyth County 911 Center.
Authorities received the initial 911 call from Jones around 1:12 p.m., according to Holtzclaw. He said she was in distress and told operators someone had a gun. Deputies responded to 218 Maple Hill Drive, within about one minute of the call, according to Holtzclaw.
"911 operators were able to hear what they believed to be possible gunshots coming from inside the home. When our deputies arrived, they were able to hear gunshots coming from inside the home," Holtzclaw said.
Authorities set up a perimeter and also requested the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office SWAT team. At around 2:35 p.m. Wednesday, Holtzclaw said deputies entered the home off of Highway 9 and discovered Geyer's body on the first floor. He said Jones was found on the second floor.
Holtzclaw said there is no current indication as to what led up to the shooting.
"There was no history of any violence at the home that we've been able to determine."
Holtzclaw said Jones and Guyer both lived in the home at the end of Maple Hill Drive. He said there are small children who also live there. They were not home during the time of the shooting.
While the investigation continued, Holtzclaw said the bodies had been sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab for autopsy.
