GAINESVILLE — The National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO) presented Hall County Schools Superintendent Will Schofield and Hall County Sheriff Gerald Couch with the 2015 Regional Exceptional Service Award Tuesday.

The presentation was made at the annual NASRO National Conference in Orlando, Florida.

Exceptional Service Awards are presented to those individuals for continuous and sustained service to the school community above and beyond that expected of a normal school resource officer (SRO) or school staff member.

During the partnership between the Hall County School District and the Sheriff’s Office, numerous systems have been put into place to enhance school safety. These are some of the more recent ones:

*Visitor Management System for the Schools, which provides for a single secured entrance for all visitors to the building, a photo taken to place on the Visitor’s Pass, and a secured login record. 

*Operation Safe School, which calls for Sheriff’s Deputy Patrol Officers to make the schools in their district a part of their routine patrol route 

*School Safety Website, which contains a secured tip-line for students and staff.

*Inclement Weather Planning, which allows patrol officers and School Resource Officers (SROs) to input live reports to a newly created Hall County App to parties involved in decision making for closing or delaying schools because of inclement weather.

The Hall County School District also received the NASRO National Safe School Leadership Award in 2013.
