Lanier Tech graduates 1,021 at 49th commencement

OAKWOOD — Lanier Technical College (LTC) graduated 1,021 during the school's 49th commencement at Free Chapel Friday. The youngest of the graduates was 16, the oldest was 68.  Lanier Tech conferred 1,510 awards as some of the graduates earned more than one degree, certificate, or diploma.

Graduates, with an average Grade Point Average of 3.5,  came from every one of the seven counties that the college serves. Banks County had 11 graduates; Barrow 115; Dawson 94; Forsyth 146; Hall, with the largest group of graduates, had 257; Jackson 102; and Lumpkin County had 33 new graduates. Another 263 came from outside the college’s traditional service.

The top five programs from which the students graduated were Practical Nursing, Cosmetology, Welding and Joining Technology, Early Childhood Care and Education, and Industrial Systems Technology.

Keynote speaker was Christian Tetzlaff, the Technical College System of Georgia Instructor of the Year and Lead Instructor of LTC's Motorsports Vehicle Technology (MVT) program,
