Longtime Gainesville doctor, former NGMC Chief of Staff dies

GAINESVILLE — A longtime Gainesville doctor and former Chief of Staff at Northeast Georgia Medical Center has died.

Dr. Neil Kelley died Tuesday at the age of 76 following an extended illness.

Dr. Kelley and his family settled in Gainesville in 1973 when he joined the Northeast Georgia Diagnostic Clinic, specializing in pulmonology and internal medicine. He practiced in Gainesville until his retirement in 1998 and served for many years on the board of the Northeast Georgia Medical Center and as its Chief of Staff in 1988.

Dr. Kelley was an avid gardener and loved music.  He was an active member of Grace Episcopal Church, where he sung in the choir for many years.

The funeral will be at 11:00 Friday at Grace Episcopal.
