CLEVELAND  — A White County man who was arrested in a drug raid on his home earlier this week had allegedly been selling a kilo of methamphetamine a week for two years.

David Lee Hawkins of Pelican Drive had been the object of a two-year investigation, according to authorities.

He was arrested by agents from the Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office (ARDEO), the White County Sheriff’s Office, and the FBI’s North Georgia Major Offenders Task Force.

The GBI agent in charge of the ARDEO, Mitchell Posey, said the investigation revealed Hawkins had been selling approximately one kilogram of methamphetamine a week over the past two years in White, Lumpkin, Dawson, Banks, Jackson, Habersham, and Hall counties.

During the raid, authorities say they seized about 20 ounces of crystal methamphetamine, approximately $200,000 in cash, a 2014 Ford Tonka Edition F-150, a 2014 Ford Taurus, 1981 Chevrolet Corvette, and 2004 Harley Davidson motorcycle.

Commenting on the arrest, White County Sheriff Neal Walden said, “ getting this drug dealer off the streets will slow the supply of meth down in North Georgia.”
