SOCIAL CIRCLE - A boat involved in a fatal accident on Lake Lanier in March struck "submerged and exposed" rocks before capsizing and trapping a passenger underneath it, resulting in her death, according to a report from the state Department of Natural Resources' Law Enforcement Division.

The four-page report, dated May 20, says damage to the vessel was consistent with such a collision.

Killed in the accident, which occurred about 9:30 p.m. March 15, was 29-year-old So Yang Kim.  The operator of the boat, Young Tae  Shim, 34, was injured and taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center where he was treated and released.

According to the report, the impact with the rocks "caused the vessel to abruptly stop in motion, rolling on its port side, turning of opposite direction, and flipping completely over on its top. The impact caused...Shim to be ejected from the vessel and Kim was trapped under the vessel, having the top half of her body, including her head, to be submerged under the water surface causing her to drown."

No charges were filed by DNR Law Enforcement in connection with the accident.  The report notes that the Hall County District Attorney's Office will determine if any charges will be filed.

The accident happened near Browns Bridge.
